Current from 28th October to 12th November 2019
Once more the Moon begins a new cycle with the Sun. This time they meet in Scorpio, the sign ruled by Mars. As the Sun and Moon’s dispositor, Mars becomes the focal planet over the next two weeks. Any critical aspect Mars makes to the other planets will have an influence on the events during the waxing phases of the upcoming lunar cycle.
New moon periods are an ideal opportunity for the individual to stride out and find adventure on their own terms and to determine what it is they want to gain from this period. The good news is – Mars is the perfect planet for individual actions, new beginnings and fresh challenges. The bad news is – Mars is currently in Libra, the sign of its detriment. There goes independence, decisiveness, and the courage and impudence to try something foreign. Other people’s desires are more likely to get in the way and to frustrate Mars rather than being of much assistance to him.
Mars makes two strong aspects in the new moon chart: a square to Saturn and a quincunx to Neptune. The Sun and Moon make a partile (same degree) opposition to Uranus – change seems inevitable, but will Mars be up to it?
Uranus opposite Sun and Moon
Uranus is a planet of discontent, disruption and change, change, change, often just for the sake of it. A month ago the new moon began with another aspect between Uranus and the two luminaries. However, last time it was a quincunx rather than an opposition (see blog for 28th Sept) and the changes were more a glimmer or a warning, rather than a solid possibility. The combination of Uranus and the Sun throws a shadow on one’s competence or reputation, and the Sun in Scorpio is likely to mean the individual is going to react instantly with anger or defensive behaviour. People who are normally calm or rational can become excitable or aggressive in their reactions so careful planning on your part may help to ease their anxiety.
If you must broach a sensitive subject then try to do so at a time when both parties are relaxed and open to discussion otherwise you may change something that needed more tact or gentle persuasion (not Uranus’ thing) and you may not be able to undo some reoccurring damage. The Moon in Scorpio is not particularly diplomatic as this is the Moon’s least favourite sign of the zodiac and drama, hurt feelings, and some tantrums that any two year old would be proud to pull off, are all standard procedure for a Moon in its fall sign. Add the explosive unpredictable nature of Uranus and you have some exciting scenes to witness – provided that you’re not the one offering the entertainment.
Saturn square Mars : In Mutual Reception
Planets in each other’s signs can be one of two things: either there is an aspect from one sign to the other, and it’s called ‘mutual reception’, or there is no aspect between them, and the term used is ‘generosity’. Generosity means they would like to help each other, but are unable to, simply because there is no sight or flow of energy between them. In this new moon chart Mars is in a partile square aspect with Saturn as both planets are in 15 degrees of cardinal signs and are in each other’s signs of exaltation. That is, Saturn would be exalted in Libra whilst Mars would be exalted in Capricorn.
As it’s the upcoming racing carnival season I will use a racing analogy. Both Mars and Saturn have horses running in different races. Mars’ horse is a total outside chance (Mars in detriment) but Mars believes in its potential. However, if the rules say he is forbidden to bet on his own horse, Mars asks Saturn to place his bets for him. Saturn has a good horse (Saturn in rulership) and is bound by the same rules of non-betting so he asks Mars to return the favour. Criss-cross. The theme of mutual reception has been worked beautifully in cinema as the premise to Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Strangers on a Train’ and its comedic equal, Danny DeVito’s ‘Throw Momma from the Train’.
In this case Saturn tries to fortify Mars by provides the individual with the ability to stand firm, even if they don’t want to for fear of upsetting someone they love. Mars in Libra struggles to make firm decisions, and then finds it hard to commit to them when the going gets rough. Saturn’s aspect will cause Mars to toughen up, but that doesn’t mean it’s a pleasant time when harsh words are said in anger. Making a stand may feel good at the time, but Mars in detriment usually means there are later repercussions and Saturn’s aspect can leave one feeling like they are fighting a one-man battle against incredible odds.
Uranus quincunx Mars *** Full Moon in Aries*** Two Weeks Ago
This is what I said two weeks ago //www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LNQo89EZkY about Mars’ awkward aspect to Uranus. Burning one’s bridges was probably much closer to the theme of the past fortnight as Uranus is volatile at any time, let alone when it makes contact with Mars. A quincunx is a bit of a ‘non-aspect’ but it shouldn’t be ignored as it talks about a total lack of compromise between two planets. Often one which is only resolved when significant change or major drama takes place. When these two planets are involved there are definitely sparks flying; words are spoken that can’t be retracted and tempers flare under these conditions.
Neptune quincunx Mars ***Now***
In the past two weeks, Mars has moved from 6 Libra to 15 Libra. Mars has moved away from the quincunx it was making to Uranus at new moon and has now taken up position to become a quincunx to Neptune. The separation theme inherent in the quincunx is still present, but in real terms it signifies that the actions taken a fortnight ago have become either bogged down and are being blocked by others, either intentionally or by pure accident. It may be that the reactions of others affected by Uranus Mars’ actions are very defensive as they are bordering on feeling victimised by your decision. It’s likely that someone is being elusive, not revealing all of the facts, or simply playing for time whilst they work out what the changes will mean for them personally.
